19 killed in cylinder explosion at clinic in Iran

At least 19 people have been killed in a horrific oxygen cylinder explosion at a clinic in the Iranian capital, Tehran. At least 14 others were injured in the incident. The death toll could rise further, citing officials, the AFP news agency reported.

The accident happened at the Sina Athar clinic in Tehran on Tuesday (June 30) evening, local time.

Tehran Fire Brigade spokesman Jalal Maleki confirmed the death toll on Wednesday morning. “Among the dead were 15 women and four men,” he said.
Maleki said, ‘The fire spread so fast in the cylinder explosion yesterday (Tuesday) evening that it was not possible to help the casualties immediately. However, fire brigade personnel were able to rescue 20 trapped people after reaching the spot.

Of the 14 injured, seven were released with first aid and the remaining seven were admitted to hospital, he said.

Oxygen cylinders exploded in the underground of the five-story clinic on Tuesday evening and the fire spread throughout the building. Part of the building was severely damaged in the fire.
